In celebration I'm pulling out the party hats, balloons, and confetti! Coffee and chocolate, anyone? *grin*
It's always a wonderful milestone to finally set a book free into the world and watch it make its way into reader hands. Of course I always cringe just a little when I click on a review, wondering what I'll find. But overall so far, the reviews have been pretty positive! In fact, many readers have said they think it's my best book yet.
Here are just a few things people have said:
"This story paints such a vivid picture of 1880s Michigan and the people who lived there. It is rich with detail so that you not only see the words on the page, but your mind paints a picture of the scene while you read." ~Sherri Stone
"A Noble Groom had everything I want in a book: romance, suspense, action, and a deepness that makes you question your own thoughts." ~Laura Pol
"This was a page turner. I read the whole book in 1 day! I could not put it down. There was something new around every corner. The one thing I really liked about this book is it was not predictable." ~Lynne Young
I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell everyone how much I appreciate all the kind words about the book. AND to thank everyone who has written a review or shared about the book in some format or another! I'm incredibly grateful!
A special thanks to all those who participated in the Book Banter last evening (Wed. 4/3). Book Banter is a Facebook chat party that my publisher hosts on their Facebook Page for their various authors (usually a couple times a month). The author makes a live appearance (like I did last night!). We chat with readers, answer questions, and give away books!
And the winners of last night's Book Banter giveaways of A Noble Groom are . . . Drum roll please!

Congratulations! Please email Noelle Buss (noelle.buss@bethanyhouse.com), publicist at Bethany House Publishers, with your mailing address so that she can send you a copy of A Noble Groom. (Valid only for US and Canadian addresses.)
Don't worry! For those who didn't win a copy of my new release, keep reading!
In honor of release week, I'm giving away two autographed copies of A Noble Groom here on my blog. All you need to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment with this post (and also please leave your email so that I can contact you if you win). Deadline for entering is next Monday night at 10:00 pm ET (April 8, 2013). (US & Canadian addresses only)
And for other news, I'm officially on spring break this week. Yes, homeschoolers do take spring break too. But unlike other moms who use spring break to spend time with their kids, I use the week to take a break from my kids. Since we're together every day, day-in day-out, it's kinda nice to have a week where we don't have to be together all the time!
So the kids are hanging out with friends, having sleepovers, finally running around outside in the slightly warmer weather, and all that good stuff.
And me? You'll never guess what I'm doing this week for my break.
I'm writing! Surprise, surprise, right? I seriously love having the extra time to write during breaks. Since writing is something I absolutely love to do (even more than reading!), it's always a delight when I get a little more time to spend at it.
Here's what my back yard looks like. Still dead and gray. Even though it's spring here in Michigan, it won't look like it until at least the beginning of May. Anyone want to send some flowers or color my way? *wink*
Have you taken a spring break this spring? If so, what did you spend your break doing? And if not, have you had spring weather yet in your area of the country?
Thanks for stopping by to help celebrate my book's release! Happy reading!
Hooray! Congrats, Jody! How lovely to celebrate with a week of writing and no home schooling. I can't wait to read it. :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine! Hope you have the chance to read it soon!! :-)
Delete~ I am from all the way up in Nova Scotia Canada. We have already had our Spring Break lovingly referred to as March Break. My 3 oldest went to Bridgewater for Teen Thunder, a week long event geared toward teens, with Preachers and activities for them. So I was a home with a hubby recovering form surgery and my two youngest daughters, ( they are all girls ) We had a fun time going to see insects and bugs at the mall (yuck) and just playing games and enjoying time with the two who don't always get alot of Mommy and Daddy time :) Thanks for taking the time after the book talk to answer the rest of the questions. Michelle Corning corningfamily at eastlink dot ca
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle,
DeleteYour early break sounds like fun! (Except the bug part!) ;-) It probably was still too cold then to enjoy being outside. I'm hoping it warms up enough here in MI today that I can take a walk outside and not freeze my ears off in the process! :-)
We have a wind chill of 0 today, but us hardy Maritimers will most likely be out playing. At least the girls will be, I will be sitting in the house with a cup of tea, reading a good book and watching birds at my feeder :)
DeleteCongratulations, Jody!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Paul! The thrill of a release never gets old! :-)
DeleteHappy spring break Jody (even though you will be working)! I'm hoping spring actually does arrive sometime while it's still spring! I really enjoyed "chatting" with you last night! Hope we can do it again with the next book release!
ReplyDeleteLynne Young
lynne(dot)young(at)gmail(dot)com
I certainly enjoyed seeing you last night too, Lynne! It was my first Book Banter, so I didn't quite know what to expect. But it really was fun! :-)
DeleteI really enjoyed your Book Banter last night on Bethany House FB page. I am so happy I won a copy of your new book, A Noble Groom. Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to receiving it and I will emai Noelle with my address. I donate books to my church library so all our ladies can read them.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning, Joan! I hope you'll enjoy the book! And that would be wonderful for you to share it with others when you're done! Keep me posted on how you like it! :-)
DeleteI spent my spring break back in February when a family came to visit. (Go homeschoolers! Woot! haha)
ReplyDeleteLOL! That IS one of the benefits of homeschooling, being able to take spring break when it works best for our schedules! When my kiddos were younger, I usually waited until a really warm week so that they could enjoy playing outside! :-)
DeleteJust checked out A Noble Groom from my local library but would love to own a copy! I was going to wait to start reading it until I finished the book I'm currently on but I don't know if I can wait :) I've heard such great things about your new book!
ReplyDeleteshellclem@hotmail.com
Hi Shelly! You're so sweet to check out the book! I'll be crossing my fingers that you enjoy it! Don't be too tough on me, -k? ;-)
DeleteWe still have waist-high snowbanks, so no spring break for us yet. But that gives me more time for reading! Thank you for the opportunity Jody. :)
ReplyDeleteMary Lund jesusbmylightATyahooDOTcom
Hi Mary,
DeleteOh my, waist-high snowbanks? Eeek! You must live in the mountains or in the far north! Our snow here is mostly gone, except the big dirty piles in parking lots that were mountain high but are now finally shrinking. Can't wait for the green and flowers though!
I got a little bit of a break this week from teaching piano; although with two little ones, I'm not sure how much of a break I really get. :) I can't wait to pick your book up and read it. It looks great!
ReplyDeletemandaandtom(at)gmail(dot)com
Hi Amanda,
DeleteOh I hear you! When you have little ones, you're pretty much working 24/7. No real breaks at that age! Now that mine are getting older (my youngest is 7), I have much more flexibility! Take care!
Congrats on the new book! I cannot wait to read this book! I have read all your other books! In three weeks we are going to a beach house as a family for our "spring break" I can't wait! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLisa (deiselbuffs@gmail.com or deiselbuffs@yahoo.ca)
Hi Lisa,
DeleteThanks for the kind words! I'll be crossing my fingers that you like my new book as much as the previous! And heading to the beach after a long winter sounds heavenly! Hope you enjoy the time and get to sneak in some reading! ;-)
Good morning, everyone! So fun to see some of you again from last night's Book Banter! Sorry it got so busy!! But it was still great fun! :-)
ReplyDeleteI also homeschool and completely understand the need to separate sometimes. I love to spend my free time reading! Will be picking up a copy of your newest release (if I don't win one!) :) Wish I could send some color your way. I live in sunny so-cal and everything is so beautiful and in bloom, orange blossoms are so fragrant right now.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, and happy writing!
6harmers(at)sbcglobal.net
Hi Denise, Glad you can relate to the need to separate at times! We love our kids but sometimes we need a little space too! :-)
DeleteAnd I'm so jealous to hear about the orange blossoms! That sounds absolutely delightful and I can only imagine how beautiful it is right now! Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have a wonderful week too!
Hi Jody. . .I have loved all of your books and can't wait to read The Noble Groom! We are also on Spring Break in Georgia but it has been cool and rainy the last two days. . .it should be in the 70's this weekend though and many things are already blooming here. . . if I could send some your way I would. . .Have a great day and congratulations on the new release!

Congratulations on your book release :) Always great to hear of successful writers/bloggers doing well.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jody!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new book release! Another great feeling of accomplishment for you.:-) As for Spring Break...yes, we homeschoolers take one too, but unfortunately this year, our Spring Break time was spent traveling up north for two funerals in our family. With that, plus our recent move, we just kept plugging along with schoolwork! Here in Texas, we've had some days in the upper 70's already, but nights can still get down to the 40's. The redbuds and dogwoods are blooming, as are the pear trees, and all kinds of flowers can be seen--tulips, daffodils, cactus:-), irises. In Texas winter, you can always see petunias blooming too!
Much as we love it here, we miss Michigan and our friends! Maybe reading your new book will fill my Michigan homesickness a little bit!:-)

Congratulations on the new book!
ReplyDeleteWe had our spring break last week, went to a couple museums, a cavev in Wisconsin, and got an orthodontist appointment taken care of. We also had a reading and relaxing day. It was a cold week here in Illinois. Hope the sun is shining in Michigan today as it is here. Elaine (panfils@sbcglobal.net)
Happy Spring Break to you!! I am so glad you have more time to write...what you write this year I'll be reading next year for spring break! =) The book looks great and I can't wait to read it thanks for a chance to win
ReplyDeletetruckredford(at)gmail(dot)com
I can't wait for this next book. I already have the Preacher's bride and Unending devotion on my nook. Great reads.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your books!!!!!!!!! Ready to read the next one, once I start reading there is no putting them down
ReplyDeleteI've loved all your other books...can't wait to read this one! alicia(dot)blaszczyk(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring Break, Jody! My kids haven't had much Spring (it's STILL cold here) or much of a break (make-up snow days). Can't wait to get my hands on this book; I've enjoyed all your books so far. :)
ReplyDeletemdwlerew@yahoo.com
Spring has sprung--and I went to Germany! (It was cold there.) My trip was an incredible, inspiring, unforgettable. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your book banter last night and can't wait to read A Noble Groom.

ReplyDeleteI had a Spring Break a couple weeks ago but didn't do anything exciting. I also live in Michigan and I am anxiously awaiting the spring weather! I'm done with the cold! I would love to win a copy of your book! I've been looking forward to reading this one since I've loved your other books. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteleahbrandel@yahoo.com
Happy spring break for you! Of course here in Houston, today's cold for Houston standards (low 60's) but tomorrow it'll be back up around 80.
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING Noble Groom. I'm about on page 100 and it is so hard to put it down! I think I agree with the other readers who have said this may be your best book yet.

ReplyDeleteNo doubt I will love A Noble Groom every bit as much as I have enjoyed your other books, Jody. Congratulations on the release. Can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a happy spring break! We homeschool as well and had ours a couple of weeks ago. I would love to win a copy of your book. I love to read and I think your idea to make the groom the "mail order" party in this novel is a great idea! Happy writing!

ReplyDeleteI'm reading Unending Devotion right now! Would love to have your next book to start right in on=)
ReplyDeleteIt's spring break here too. I don't have kids, but do have a little 10 year old girl that I mentor. So I took Monday off of work and spent the afternoon with her. It was in the 70's here (South Carolina) so it was the prefect day to take off of work!

I'm so excited to read your new release--and that you're giving away a couple of signed copies! Enjoy your extra writing time and the slightly warmer weather.

ReplyDeleteYay!! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a homeschool mom taking a break from children during spring break. My husband is a teacher and also commutes with our children so perhaps I will surprise him with a mini vacation during part of our next spring break.

We had spring break a few weeks ago and spent a day at White Sands, the largest gypsum deposits in the world. We took a friend's sled and spent the day playing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your latest, Jody! You continue to be an inspiration!

I have loved the three books I've read. Would love to read the Groom.
ReplyDeleteEnduring our crazy weather here in south Texas. My garden is happy for the much needed rain we got the other day. My roses are in full bloom and everything's green.
ReplyDeleteI homeschool too and during Spring Break I caught up on some things around the house (real fun, I know).
I love to write too, every chance I get. I'm excited you get this week to do it yourself. I don't know about you but it's such a stress reliever for me. Enjoy your time.
I guess I should leave my email??? candes2000@msn.com

No spring break for us -- we're homeschooling on thru so that we can take a lengthy visit home in May.
ReplyDeleteYou sound excited. :) Congratulations, Jody. Truly. And I hope you have a good break!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I look forward to reading a book by you.
ReplyDeleteI homeschool my kids too. Its always nice to have a break from them. Have fun writing on your break. Moms who homeschool deserve a break. Can't wait to read your book!
ReplyDeleteJody - Congratulations! Looking forward to reading your new book! And I love the cover with the male lead - very cool.
ReplyDeletebecky (at) beckydoughty.com
Congratulations on your book! It sounds wonderful. And enjoy your week of writing. For our March Break, my daughter and I took my mom to San Francisco. My first experience with a three-generation trip, and it was unforgettable.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Jody! I LOVE A Noble Groom! I'll be sharing my book review on my blog next week. The reason this one is at the top of the list as my favorite is because the love story is so rich and vibrant. I can feel Carl and Annalisa's love for one another. I'm cheering for them, even though things look pretty shaky right now...I'm going to sneak away and finish it this afternoon. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you have a lot less snow than we do in central Minnesota. The grass is finally peeking out in patches in our backyard. No spring break here! We had to use the spring break as make up days for our kids because we had so many snow days this winter. Happy Spring!
No spring break for us as my littles are 3yo, 2yo and 5 months. There is still way too much snow in the backyard. We have a bad case of cabin fever. Temp today is about 21F. I'm originally from upstate NY now residing in SE Manitoba, Canada.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the release! Look forward to reading it.
I just finished The Doctor's Lady, it was exciting to see in the author's notes the story is based on Narcissa Whitman's journals. I am fascinated with that time in history, when homeschooling my son I took him to Fort Walla Walla and the Whitman Mission nearby, it's very moving.
ReplyDeleteThe book looks amazing. Congratulations! I'd love to win a copy. My email is LMarshall.Writer@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteJody, the party was so much fun last night! Thanks for answering a couple of my questions. It's always interesting to get published authors' perspectives on the process of becoming (and staying) published. I'm working on the first read-though/edit of my first completed manuscript, so I'm loving all the advice I'm gleaning from various authors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this second opportunity to win a book. I'm looking forward to reading A Noble Groom. It's got an intriguing storyline that I'm sure I'll love.
As for spring break, my family already had ours a couple weeks ago. We went to Louisiana for a few days (we live next door in Texas). We stayed at this spacious cabin that had this neat open-concept living/dining/kitchen space that has inspired me in my own house plans for later on down the road. I love everything interior design and decorating.
God bless you muchly, Jody, as you journey with Him. And may He bless you with plenty of beautiful WORDS this week!

ReplyDeleteSince I live in Florida, seems like the rest of the country takes its Spring Break here. Don't blame them though because we've had some lovely weather in the last week or two.
I'd love to win a copy of your book. I'm sure my book club will be eager to read A Nobel Groom too!
Congratulations! The 1880s hold a particular fascination for me, so I'm doubly looking forward to reading your newest book!

ReplyDeleteI believe the school kids had their break this week.... For me life was as usual. We had nice spring weather for a few days and now it is RAINING! Of course that is normal spring weather where I live but a few more days of sun would have been very nice...I got a camera for my birthday in February and I am anxious to try it out more ;)

Wow, Jody! Book #4 - what a big accomplishment! Really happy for you and I know my daughter and I cannot wait to dig into this one as well.

Hi Jody. I'm so sad to learn I missed your Book Banter. If I knew it, I sure forgot. Of course that is a possibility since my Forgeter works better than my Rememberer these days. Haven't I signed up for your newsletter? Thought I had. It is usually HOT by now here in the Houston area.. But, GOD has given us a little more Winter and Spring than we usually have. So have enjoyed not having to have the A/C on every day as usual by now. Today was just a bit cool tho for a cold front came in. Won't last long tho. Yes, flowers are blooming everywhere. And, grass stays green all year.
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter is a homeschool mother. The 3rd oldest is in the 1st grade this year, and guess she will start Lily soon if not now. She is 4. And #5 is 5 mo. old. She enjoys it, and it is nice that she can change her schedule when needed. Congrats on your new book. I love the title, and love the cover! I want to read it and sure hoping to win this one. My 78th birthday is Sunday, so it would make a nice gift. Maxie mac262(at)me(dot)com
This would be a good book to read.
ReplyDeleteThank you for a nice give away.

I'd also love to be entered to receive a copy of your book. So here's my email: tracy@tracycampbell.net.
Oh, and no spring break for me. Work, work, work.
I have to give up my spring break this year to help a relative, but in the past I used spring vacations to write, too. It's nice to be able to write without feeling guilty about all the other work I feel like I should be doing. And congratulations on Noble Groom! That's awesome that it's been released and that the views have been positive.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on its release, Jody! I'm SO looking forward to reading it, and hoping my copy will arrive soon so I can help get the word out about how good it is. (I have no doubt that it's at least as good as your others!) :)
ReplyDeleteSpring is well underway here on Canada's west coast -- grass is greening, cherry tree and magnolia blossoms turning up everywhere. We had one exceptionally warm week, but now it's raining again. When our children were young we often went 'cold weather camping' during their spring break, taking the RV out for its first trip of the year. That almost always required boots and warm jackets, but it was exhilarating to get outdoors.
Congratulations Jody! I am reading this book right now. It is wonderful! Hope you have a great spring break! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jody -
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the release of your 4th book! It's on my Wish List, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Congrats on the new release, Jody. I've heard really wonderful things about it from a good friend (who loved it so much she refused to lend me a copy). Sigh. . . Anyway, I'm hoping to read it soon. Always love a story set in Michigan. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you again, everyone for the warm wishes! And for celebrating this special time with me! I truly appreciate it! :-)
